Is cleanser the same as face wash?

Both facial cleansers and face washes are formulas created to remove dirt, oil, debris and makeup from your skin. Typically, cleansers are a bit milder—they contain gentler ingredients and moisturizers, and they don’t foam up—while face washes tend to be a bit stronger and will foam up when combined with water. Cleansers are generally favored by people with dry and/or sensitive skin because the ingredients are so gentle, while facial washes are preferred by people with oilier skin types because they are more deep cleaning. However, neither facial cleanser or face wash are exceptionally harsh, and both are excellent ways to cleanse the skin without stripping or irritation.

How do I cleanse my face with face cleanser?

Start by selecting the best formula for your skin type. For example, if you have dry skin, choose a rich, non-foaming face cleanser. If you have acne-prone skin, choose a formula that is an acne clarifying cleanser with salicylic acid. Next, secure your hair away from your face in order to reach all the skin up to your hairline. Wash your hands and moisten your face and neck with warm water. Dispense a dime-to-nickel-sized amount of cleanser into your hands and then apply to your face. Gently massage the face cleanser into your skin with your fingertips, extending it up into your hairline, onto your jawline and down onto your neck. Massage with upward/circular strokes for about 60 seconds. Be sure to work the face cleanser into the sides of your nose and the top crease of your chin where oil and debris tend to accumulate. Rinse thoroughly with warm water, then pat dry with a towel.
