What You Need to Know About Bronzer Makeup

What does bronzer do?

Bronzers make your skin look as if you’ve been out in the sun. They give you a warm, luminous glow. They can also lightly sculpt your face. Bronzer makeup can come in a cream/putty or a powder form, and may be matte or shimmery. If you’re using a bronzer to contour your face, go with a matte formula like e.l.f.'s Putty Bronzer or Primer-Infused Powder Bronzer.

How do I apply bronzer?

To apply a bronzing powder, think about the high points of your face where the sun would hit. Dip a brush into the bronzer powder, tap off the excess and sweep the color onto the tops of your cheekbones and up into your hairline and on the largest part of your forehead and the bridge of your nose. To apply a face bronzing powder or a matte putty, use a sponge or brush and sweep it under your cheekbone, starting at the hairline. Then blend upward. For a cohesive look, add some matte bronzer around your hairline and along the sides of your nose.

What is the difference between bronzer and blush?

Blush adds warmth to the cheeks while bronzer creates a sun-kissed glow. Blush comes in colors like pink, peach, apricot, rose and plum. Face bronzers usually come in brown or gold shades. A good solution is a bronzer palette providing a variety of powdery shades.

Can I use bronzer and blush together?

Start with a bronzer like a putty bronzer. Use a brush to tap a small amount of the cream bronzer along the perimeter of your forehead and in the hollows of your cheeks and continue tapping to blend thoroughly. Then apply cream blush to your cheekbones, sweeping upward and blending the color into the bronzer.

What is the difference between bronzer and contour?

Although the two are very similar, the main purpose of contour is to create shadows on the face which will help define and sculpt your features. The main purpose of bronzer is to add a warm, sunny glow to your complexion.
