Under Eye Concealer FAQs

What should I look for in an under-eye concealer?

Under eye concealers are crucial for masking dark circles, under eye bags, redness and fine lines. Some concealer formulas, like the Hydrating Camo Concealer, also contain hydrating ingredients to moisturize your skin while covering imperfections. Look for a liquid or cream formula that offers full coverage. Select a shade that matches your skin tone as closely as possible, in terms of both level (light to dark) and tone (warm, cool or neutral.) If your skin is normal or dry, opt for a moisturizing formula with a satin finish. If you have oily skin, choose a matte formula like the 16-Hour Camo Concealer.

How do I apply under eye concealer?

Applying under eye concealer will instantly brighten your eyes and make you look fresh and rested. Start by preparing your skin with a hydrating eye cream. Tap it lightly onto the under eye area with your ring finger. Apply your foundation, then place a dot of a concealer in the corner of your eye and a fine line of concealer on the outside of your eye. Wait a minute to let the concealer be absorbed into your skin. Using a concealer brush, a damp face sponge or your finger, blend the two areas together. If you would like to set the concealer in place, choose a setting powder that is one shade lighter than your skin tone and brush it over the concealer under your eyes.

Should under eye concealer be lighter or darker than your foundation?

When choosing an eye concealer shade, try to select a color that is as close as possible to your foundation rather than lighter or darker. However, you may wish to choose a different tone, depending upon what type of imperfection you’re trying to conceal. For example, if you have bluish-colored dark circles, a warm under eye concealer will cancel out blue shadows. If you’re trying to neutralize redness, choose a cool- or neutral-toned under eye concealer.

What color cancels out dark circles?

Any under eye concealer with a pink or peachy base will cancel out the bluish tone of dark circles.

How do you apply under eye concealer on mature skin?

One of the biggest challenges for people with mature skin is under eye concealer that settles into fine lines and wrinkles. Here are some tips for smooth and flawless under eye concealer application on mature skin. First, as mature skin tends to be on the dry side, prep the under eye area with a plumping, moisturizing eye cream. Next, choose a satiny, moisturizing concealer formula that will continue to moisturize the skin. Using the concealer applicator, apply the product in a half circle that extends from the outer corner to the inner corner of your eye. Pat the concealer into your skin with a damp sponge or your finger—both techniques will help your skin absorb the product. As you blend, gently pull the skin under your eyes taut to prevent the concealer from settling into fine lines. Avoid pulling your foundation up to your under eye area—this will just create more chances of something settling into your lines. Finally, set the under eye concealer with a fine, translucent setting powder by loading a medium size fluffy brush with the powder and gently pressing it into the under eye area.
